It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas | Gilford NH Photographer

So not only is it beginning to feel like Christmas around here – due to an annual and unfortunate chest cold that is wreaking havoc on my system – but I woke up this morning to some freshly fallen snow!  Granted it was just a dusting, but it’s enough to get me feeling really in the spirit of the season!  I can’t wait for these mountains to be all white and snowcapped very very soon!

TONIGHT FRIDAY (5:30pm-8:30pm) AND TOMORROW SATURDAY (10AM-12:30PM)!!!

If you are free this weekend and in the Lakes Region, the Gilford Youth Center on Potter Hill Rd in Gilford, NH is having their annual Christmas Fair and Santa Land.  There will be lots of interactive stations including face painting, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, games, bounces houses, and a giant inflatable slide.  Santa will be there to meet with the kiddos and there will be a cookie walk, toy raffle and also the Festival of Trees where you can walk past and view trees decorated by local families, volunteers, and groups including Carey Hough Photography!  My good friend Allison and I put up our tree yesterday with a fun photo theme and lots of camera decorations.  And if you stop by, be sure to pick up your present from the display – a certificate good for $25 off a regular session booked in 2013 (find it in the wicker basket on top of the present)!  And if you’re local you may know some of the faces on the tree!

Apologies for the fuzzy, unbalanced, and frankly crappy iPhone photo.  I was concentrating so much on getting the tree, decorations and goodies out the door that I didn’t grab my actual camera.  I plan to get some better photos tomorrow!

Tomorrow from 9am-3pm is also the big craft fair at Gilford High School down the road – make a big weekend of it and get some of your holiday shopping done locally by supporting a local crafter/artist/creative!  I know a few fantastic people will be there including Liz from With Love and Luck and Mallory from “Naked” Vegan Lip Balms and Soaps.  Let them know I said hi!  And check back for some very exciting announcements for some very exciting things happening next week!!!

Fall Cutie!!! | Gilford NH Children Photographer

I was just going through some personal photos from the past month and came across this adorable cutie!  I quickly snapped this while we were at an apple picking play date in Gilford, NH.  This was a super cool find because the barn was BLUE!  The grounds here were amazing and I’d love to shoot a family or children’s session here again.

Mini Sessions! | Lakes Region Photographer Western MA Photographer

I’m happy to announce fall mini sessions this year in both the NH Lakes Region/Capitol area and Western MA areas. Mini Sessions are great if you’ve never had custom photography before and want to see what it’s like or if you need a few updated photos for holiday gifts and cards. These are shorter and less customized than a traditional portrait session and reflect that in the price. Sessions are limited and will be held on mornings and evenings Sunday Sept 16th in the Lakes Region (rain date October 14th) and Saturday October 6th in Western MA (rain date October 7th).

Mini session will be $145 (MA residents please add 6.25% sales tax) and include a 30 minute session, online slideshow, 1 8×10 print, 2 5×7 prints, 5 images on disc and 15% off additional prints and products. I do offer holiday cards, but will also upload your pictures to Minted.com or TinyPrints.com if you prefer to create your own. There is a limit of 5 people per session and as with all sessions these are first come, first served and are only held with full session payment and signed portrait agreement. I accept cash, check, PayPal and all major credit cards. Please call me 413-330-6304 or email me carey@careyhoughphotography.com to book your session or if you have any questions!

Lakes Region Mini Sessions will be held at the beautiful Gilmanton Winery  and Vineyard in Gilmanton, NH.  This location is not only very pretty, but they have alpacas the kids can visit (if you are using your mini session for a children’s or family session) a great wine tasting (if this is more of a couple’s session or just for the adults in your party) and a FABULOUS 5-course Sunday brunch courtesy of Chef Ellie.  We had some visitors up this weekend and decided to stop by – and believe me – you will not leave hungry! My mini sessions will take place on Sunday Sept 16th, so it gives you a great opportunity to try out their brunch if you sign up for a morning session. Reservations are required at the Winery for brunch or Friday night dinners.  You can find more information about the Winery and their brunch and dinner events on their website www.gilmantonwinery.com

Location details are still being finalized for Western MA mini sessions and I will post more information when it is available!

Water | Gilford Children Photographer

So I may have gotten the blog circle date wrong…oopsies.  Well for your Wednesday viewing it’s this month’s theme: WATER!

Being a Lakes Region photographer I get the opportunity to shoot around water a lot – which is fantastic because lakes, oceans, and streams are some of my favorite, and I believe most beautiful, places to have as a backdrop for images.  For this one though, I really just wanted to capture some candid time with Adam and one of his best friends we’ve made since moving up here.  “A” and her family have been fantastic friends and so welcoming, and for a good chunk of the summer we’ve enjoyed playing and hanging out with them on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford.  Here’s just a few candid and unposed moments of kids being kids and really enjoying the cool and fun that the lake brings!

Don’t forget – I’m getting my feet “wet” with a new seasonal newsletter designed to bring you tips, fun info and promotions (and please let me know what you’d like to see in the future!).  Sign up now because the first edition is set to go out any day now!  Also keep the circle going and “splash” on over to the blog at Julia Russell Photography and see how she took on the water this month!!!

What’s New? | Gilmanton NH Photographer

I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer!  The hustle and bustle of enjoying the warm weather and sunshine always takes a toll on the Hough household – we don’t know the meaning of “Lazy Summer Days” here.  Since moving to the Lakes Region we’ve made some great friends and have had lots of fun with them going on hikes, swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee, and picking summer fruit – to name just a few of our fun activities.  My energy level has also taken a toll, in part to some exciting news that I can now share…

That’s right!  We found out in early May, which is why things have been quiet around the blog and business.  Now that I’m over the most  of the early pregnancy symptoms I can function like normal human being again!  It goes without saying that we are completely over the moon with this news!

Speaking of news – I am about to launch my quarterly newsletter, “Behind the Lens”.  It’s a great way for me to share with you what’s going on for promotions and events, some tips for improving your own photography, spotlight on the products I offer, featured photography sessions and maybe a recipe or two!  Please sign up here to check it out!  The first edition is going out later this week and will feature the information on this year’s Mini Sessions!!!

Back in March I wrote about KRide (check out the post if you missed it) and I’m happy to say that Martin and I both completed the 25-mile ride in about 2.5hrs.  It was a great ride, a great day and I’m hoping to be able to ride it again next June.  I had said then that anyone who donated $50 or more to sponsor me for the ride would be entered into a drawing for a complimentary session and 11″x14″ print.  I’m happy to announce that a few people did take me up on that offer, and the lucky winners are Peter and Heather Hodgson!  I’ll be in touch to set up details soon Peter and Heather!  I am still so very thankful to everyone for their contributions.  We ended up raising $7,524 as a team this year – an incredible amount that will do such good!!!

Check back tomorrow for the August blog circle featuring some fun lake pictures to celebrate “Water!”
