Belmont NH Senior Photos | Meet Nina!

Okay I am WAAAAY behind on blogging. I totally get it. But be kind. October, November, and December for a photographer is a bit like April for an accountant (and it’s super fun when you have both of those professions in one house). I just got in from a chilly session and decided the best way to warm up was to throw back to an awesome session we did with Nina early this fall. Ok first thing to know is that Nina is a competitive dancer who plans to study dance and psychology in college. The second thing to know is that she is one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met. And third…third is that she is DROP. DEAD. GORGEOUS.

Nina is really into the country/rural look, and wanted a more rustic feel for her senior photos. Luckily for me she had the best idea for a location. She used to go to summer camp at Canterbury Shaker Village and it held such great memories for her, so she knew pretty early on that she wanted to focus her session there. She had some great outfits she brought along, and paired up with the buildings and scenery – she just popped. Take a look at some of our favorites:

What are your goals for the future?
My goals for the future are to help children who have a tough life build a better future. I would also like to work at Disney World as Princess Jasmine. (Photographer’s Note: Yup. Pretty sure you’d get that job in a heartbeat).belmont_senior_photo_6

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
My favorite memory in high school so far has been when my school hosted a unified basketball jamboree, and I was able to participate in it. belmont_senior_photo_4

How would you describe yourself?
I would describe myself as kind and fun loving.belmont_senior_photo_1

What is your favorite fashion trend?
Pairing ripped jeans with low cut booties.belmont_senior_photo_7

What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as someone who made a difference in someone’s life, even if it’s just one person. (ME TOO ME TOO!!!)belmont_senior_photo_3

Senior year can be soooooo busy – how do you spend your free time?
I spend my free time dancing or spending time with my family and friends.

What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote is “Do it big, do it right, and do it with style.” -Fred Astaire.
belmont_senior_photo_2

Nina – you did Fred Astaire proud with your senior photo session. You absolutely brought it and I had such a fantastic time photographing you!

If your school has a later cutoff date for your senior photos and you haven’t taken them yet – or maybe you didn’t like the way they turned out – you still have time to book a session with me! Give me a call or email carey@careyhoughphotography.com and let’s get you some photos you will absolutely LOVE!

Gilford Family Photos at the Beach! | Gilford NH Family Photographer

“Life is like an ocean. It can be calm and still or rough and rigid. But in the end it’s always beautiful.”

On one of the last super warm days of summer, my assistant Amber and I met up with Mallory and her fun Gilford NH family for some updated family photos. Mallory is a fellow photographer, which was both exciting and a little bit nerve racking, but it was all in all awesome because she knew exactly what I was going to do and was game for anything. They really wanted to head to the coast and play in the ocean, and use the beauty of NH’s seacoast as a backdrop to their photos – and I was very happy to oblige! I mean heck yeah!!! Is there anything better than the ocean breeze and the crashing waves? And after Megan’s awesome senior photos at the coast I was eager to shoot there again. You’ve got so many backdrops to use, the rocks, the water, the sand, the beach grass – it’s wonderful. I just feel so much more peaceful near the sea – and it definitely inspired us to run, splash, play and just have a blast. When I first met the kids, they were a bit shy, but before long their personalities were shining through. Between showing me their best poses, to pretending to be a lion – they gave me sooo much to capture. My favorite photos are the ones where we get the real authentic smiles and personalities. Mallory – I had such a blast with your family. You guys are so full of love and fun and it was such a pleasure to photograph you.

Laconia NH Family Photographer | It’s Fun to Be One!

Deanna contacted me earlier this summer because she wanted to schedule photos to celebrate her youngest son’s first birthday. I’ve photographed Deanna’s family before and they are so much fun! I have to say I love the first birthday photos – you never EVER know what you are going to get with them, but it’s a fun time to play and really capture those giggles that mark between being a baby and a toddler. She wanted to make use of the beauty and uniqueness of the Lakes Region and requested we take them down and around Weirs Beach in Laconia. I’m a sucker for the lake and boardwalks so I was absolutely on board with her ideas! In addition to capturing her youngest’s first birthday, she wanted some updated family photos – and since it has been a couple years since the last time we photographed them.

We played around and explored the boardwalk for a couple hours. The kids really loved checking everything out, running around and just having fun making faces at me. I am in LOVE with her youngest son’s smile – it was just adorable. Her daughter is just beautiful and I love that we were able to get some more serene images if her. And her oldest son just absolutely is Mr. Personality. He did a great job making me laugh throughout our session!

P.S. If you are looking for Fall family photos in the Lakes Region make sure to contact me – I’d love to work with you to create a custom photo session. Updated family photos are great for not only yourself, but your annual holiday cards and especially great for holiday gifts. My October and November dates are filling up VERY fast though and it is first come first served so don’t wait to get in touch!

Laconia High School Senior Pictures | Meet Gabby L!

Warm days, chilly nights and pumpkin spice everything. It all means that fall is DEFINITELY in the air. Which also means yearbook photo deadlines are fast approaching and I only have 7 fall dates left for senior photos!!! If you haven’t booked yours yet – please don’t wait because the dates are going really really quickly!

Meet Gabby! I’ve known Gabby over half my life and I have to admit I am a bit biased when it comes to her, since she is my cousin. Not only is Gabby the captain of her cheerleading squad, but she also competes in a event on her high school track team AND is in jazz band. That’s in addition to being a devoted book reader (I love talking about dystopian series with her like the Hunger Games and Divergent series) an excellent student and a hard worker.

Gabby is actually from my hometown in Massachusetts, but came up to visit me to have some unique looks for her senior portraits. She was VERY adamant that she did not want a country or rural look so we scouted out some locations and came up with a really fun industrial/gritty feel for her session – though we did find some flowers at one point. Fair warning if I see flowers I’m probably going to put you in front of them and take a couple pictures so that you have that option in case you change your mind. We headed in and around Laconia and got just the look Gabby wanted. She brought so many great outfits that it was hard to choose – but I am SO GLAD she brought her prom dress. It was a great opportunity to rock it a second time and seriously – the photos came out STUNNING!

How do you spend your free time?
I usually spend my free time with friends, usually shopping and/or eating.

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
Prom was an absolute blast!

Best advice you’ve ever received?
“Envelope yourself in your studies and interests and forget about the problems you cant solve”

laconia nh senior pictures

Whats your favorite quote and why?
One of my favorite quotes is “Just remember, even your worst days only have 24 hours” because it reminds me how temporary everything really is, and allows me to achieve a optimistic mind set.

Gabby thank you so much for coming up to visit me and having me take your pictures. There aren’t even words for how awesome your session was – and I couldn’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of you. I know you are going to do outstanding things – just don’t forget to come back and visit from time to time!

Tilton School High School Senior Portraits | Meet Megan

We are in the thick of senior portrait season here at the studio! I’m doing a pretty good job of keeping up on Instagram (Follow me if you don’t already!) but the blog has been neglected a bit. If you are a 2016 senior and you haven’t had your senior portraits taken yet there’s still time so don’t hesitate to email me. I am seriously in awe of all the New Hampshire seniors I’ve photographed so far – they are all so talented, accomplished and beautiful inside and out.

I had the opportunity to photograph Megan, a Tilton School senior. Keeping up with the tradition of this year’s seniors, Megan is super involved, playing lots of sports (softball, field hockey and club hockey) and helping out with different community service activities. Seriously Class of 2016 – you guys are making me so happy for our future! Megan’s mom had bid on, and won, her senior session from the annual Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction this past winter and Megan asked if we could go up to Ogunquit, ME where she visits every summer. I’d never been there, but the second I heard ‘beach’ and ‘ocean’ I was game. Megan brought some fantastic outfits and the coast gave us so many cool backdrops to photograph against. I definitely fell in love with the area, and would be so up for photographing there again!

What are you looking forward to in your Senior year?
I am looking forward to completing the college application process. I am excited to figure out which college will be the best fit for me. I am also happy to be spending one more year of school with my best friends.

tilton nh senior portraits

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
My favorite high school memory was winning the softball championship last year. We went undefeated throughout the whole season and when it came tournament time we defeated New Hampton school, which was the school we lost to in the semi-finals the year before.

How do you spend your free time?
During my free time you can usually find me dancing, swimming, skiing, or working out. I am a very active and athletic person, so I will rarely ever not be doing anything. Although, sometimes a good night on the couch watching Finding Carter is an exception.

081015_Sargent-311

What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for being the girl who always has a smile on her face because she is genuinely happy. I hope that people remember me as a successful student leader, but also someone who was friendly to everyone.

081015_Sargent-476

What are your goals for the future?
In the future, I want to become a nurse. I am not sure exactly what I want to specialize in yet, but I am aiming towards neonatal or pediatric. I have always known that I wanted to work in the medical field, and I can not wait to embark on the journey to get me there. (NOTE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Nurses are amazing AMAZING people. Coming from a completely unbiased daughter of the best nurse there ever was).

081015_Sargent-532

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is to know how much you are worth and to never take your high school years, or your time anywhere, for granted because it goes by faster than you realize.

081015_Sargent-554

What’s your favorite quote and why?
My favorite quote would have to be, “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” by Dr. Seuss because it also reminds me to be myself because each and every person is unique. Don’t live your life my other peoples standards. Standing out is a good thing.

tilton nh senior pictures
Megan I have absolutely no doubt that you will attain and succeed the goals you have set for yourself and your future. I am so happy to see your dedication to helping others and based on the times I’ve been around you I know that you have the right amount of caring, compassion and kindness. Thank you so much for rocking your photos, letting me be your photographer and bringing the fun to your session! I’d like to leave you with one of MY favorite Dr. Seuss quotes:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
